Job Description

Job Purpose

Over The Net Mill Hill is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated LTA Coach Assistant to support the delivery of engaging, inclusive, and high-quality tennis coaching sessions for children, juniors, and adult players of all abilities.

This role is ideal for someone beginning their coaching journey who has a passion for tennis, enjoys working with people, and wants to gain valuable experience within a professional and supportive coaching environment. The Coach Assistant will support lead coaches with session delivery, player engagement, equipment setup, and maintaining a safe and positive atmosphere on court.

Key Responsibilities

Coaching Support

  • Assist Lead Coaches during group and individual coaching sessions.
  • Support the delivery of Mini Tennis, junior development, and adult coaching programmes.
  • Help organise and set up coaching equipment before and after sessions.
  • Assist with demonstrations, feeding drills, and player organisation.
  • Encourage participation, enjoyment, and confidence among players.
  • Help create a positive, inclusive, and energetic coaching environment.

Player Engagement

  • Build positive relationships with players, parents, and club members.
  • Support younger players during sessions and activities.
  • Encourage teamwork, sportsmanship, and respect on and off court.
  • Assist with holiday camps, competitions, and tennis events.

Health, Safety & Safeguarding

  • Follow safeguarding and health & safety procedures at all times.
  • Ensure courts and coaching equipment are maintained in a safe condition.
  • Report accidents, incidents, or concerns to the Lead Coach promptly.
  • Support safe supervision of players during sessions and events.

Administration & Teamwork

  • Assist with attendance registers where required.
  • Arrive punctually and prepared for all coaching sessions.
  • Work collaboratively with coaching staff and venue management.
  • Attend coach training and staff meetings where requested.

Person Specification

Essential Criteria

Qualifications

  • LTA Tennis Leaders qualification or working towards LTA Level 1.
  • Willingness to complete safeguarding and first aid training.
  • DBS check or willingness to obtain one.

Experience

  • Experience playing tennis recreationally or competitively.
  • Experience working with children or in a sports environment desirable.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team.
  • Positive and enthusiastic attitude.
  • Basic understanding of tennis coaching principles.
  • Ability to motivate and engage players.

Desirable Criteria

  • LTA Level 1 qualification.

  • Interest in progressing through the LTA coaching pathway.
  • Current first aid qualification.
